I love finding new great kids books to share with my readers! Whatever Wanda is the third book in the Shine Bright Kids series. This book is a great starting point for talking about attitudes – good and bad. The author encourages parents to teach their children that having a positive attitude makes everything better.
Whatever Wanda
About the Book
Wanda is in serious need of an attitude adjustment! She doesn’t want to accompany her family to the Rubber Duck Days Festival, and once there, she won’t participate in any of the events or join in with her friends. Soon Wanda receives some helpful advice and learns that:
‘Sometimes you have to believe something will be great before it actually is. Being positive is a choice that makes everything better, not to mention, a whole lot more fun!’
About the Author/Publisher
Christy Ziglar, financial planner, mother of twins, and niece of legendary motivator and the world’s original optimist, Zig Ziglar, is bringing the same timeless wisdom and ageless advice to an entirely new, younger audience through her Shine Bright Kids picture book series. Christy, her husband, and their twins live in Atlanta, Georgia.
My Thoughts
What a great picture book! Wanda did NOT want to go to the Duck Dash. She did NOT want to match her family, and she did NOT want to participate in the games with her friends. Each time she was asked to participate, her response was “Whatever”.
How many times do I get the same response from my own children? Too often, I’m afraid! Everyone tries to get Wanda to enjoy the day, but she needs a major attitude adjustment. In the end, Waddles the Duck shares with her the key to enjoying the day.
Sometimes you have to believe something WILL be great before it actually IS. Being positive is a choice that makes everything better – not to mention, a whole lot more fun!
What a wonderful message to share with our children, and even a great reminder for myself sometimes. I can’t wait to read this book with my 4yo nephew, and I can’t wait to give one away to you!

Sounds like a great book. I might have a hard time reading it though, fighting the urge to thump a character. LOL Glad it ends well!
